Canon EOS R - I am adaptable or my EF lenses are!

I am 'Adaptable"...last of my EOS R Test updates - this is one in a series of four posts that were made earlier in the year on Facebook!

Got your popcorn? Ready, set, go!

Before I headed out today, I decided I needed to see if my Canon lenses worked with the RF adaptor that Canon Canada lent to me via my Canon Professional Services membership - CPS...maybe I should hashtag them so they can see how much I am doing for them and maybe they will give me a Canon EOS R 5 for FREE?? Um, okay then, maybe to test? I did ask to be put on the waiting list to try this camera when it is available so technically I don't need to 'butter anyone up'...I am in the system!!

Well, back to being 'adaptable" - I was so thrilled to see that EVERY LAST ONE of my Canon lenses worked perfectly with the RF adaptor - I was focused on a window shutter and out my back door to see if AF worked and it did!! Mama is happy.

At this point in my life, I am a tad shaken up by the fact that all of my efforts in supporting Canon may have been in vain...ON PAPER, the Sony (A7 R4, A9, A9 II) are all superior cameras and if truth be told, so is most of the Sony lineup. The number of professional photographers dumping their Canon gear to switch, continues to grow. I won't name names - um, I obviously don't know who they all are (!) - but I know a couple! I seem to hear more about Canon shooters who are switching than Nikon users...

WILL I SWITCH? (I know you are waiting for this!!)

Here is the thing - I still have still not decided - BUT and this is a big "BUT" (hence the capitals), it is not just about the specs...

Whatever camera I get has to 'feel right' - I remember picking up the FUJI compared to the Sony and loving the feel - BUT - and this is a big BUT - hence the capitals which I used earlier, I have $$$$ in Canon gear that would not work with the FUJI so I had to say no to that system.

I also want to have access to service if I need it. I can drive to the Canon head office in Mississauga. If I don't want to drive, I can ship my camera to them and they will ship it back.

Another consideration is the type of shooting I do - yes, horse photography is a big part and some of those horses move so you have to be quick (who knew?) BUT (note the capitals), I love abstracts, portraits, landscapes, macro, a lot of motionless subjects - well, I guess the portrait people better be a bit more lively...I guess what I am saying is I love photography and need a camera that can do it all...and preferably work with the lenses I already have.

From what I have seen so far, the EOS R can do almost everything for me - it would be a fabulous portrait camera and I LOVE shooting with it. Unfortunately, I also LOVE the RF 70 - 200, (more $$$) so will have to decide what to do over the next few months once the latest Canon is available. Right now, I think the EOS R can work for me and if the pricing goes down as the new Canons are introduced, it may be the right move. Hmmm...not so great I have heard for action however my Canon 5D 4 has been
'okay'...

All of my 'heavy' lenses seems a lot lighter with the EOS R.

My trip today was fun - I met two lovely young ladies that I talked into posing for me, um, jumping over and over, and as they were in focus, I am even happier!!

Thank you all for reading along as I sort through my next purchase - I am not in any hurry to buy obviously as I have spent the last year thinking about this.

I also know that if it 'feels right', I don't have a problem buying and as of right now, I haven't found what I want. I know I will be buying a mirrorless body and lenses so right now it is to decide which system suits me better- (luckily my lenses will work with both Canon and Sony).

I have been waiting for Canon to catch up - love my 5D Mark IV - and I am almost over my Nikon D850 crush so my next camera will be a keeper that is for sure!

I am thankful I was able to test drive this camera and now when I look at Sony, I will be able to compare hands on mirrorless to mirrorless, not just paper comparisons.
