Equine Fine Art & Abstract Photography

My photography has shifted as I have,

from my black and white darkroom days

to the light and motion of an abstract.

Follow along as my way of seeing has changed over time.

My Photography Journey…

A Curated Digital Exhibit

The Monochrome Horse

My first efforts in B&W were records of what I saw. It seemed simpler to photograph events as they were because it was the ‘truth’ in black and white.

Textured Equine

Then I started to realize life wasn’t always ‘black and white”. I started to experiment with textures and it added an artistic touch. Life has many layers.

Abstract Impressions

Now, I enjoy using motion, light and patterns to create abstract images. These images are made intentionally to represent what I saw in my mind.

When Art becomes a conversation…

“Laurie, I love this! I’ve been creating ‘photo poetry’,‍ ‍writing short poems to accompany my photos. I couldn’t stop thinking about this image, so I wrote you a poem.

She wore grey,

Like indifference

Then-

a gust of November,

rust, ochre,

autumn’s last leaves.

She danced.

Alive.

longing to become flame.

.

Dianne Hammond,

Tthank you for the poem!

More reflections from my online community below…

Comforting piece. The image gives permission to sit back and enjoy its calming power. We don’t sit back enough.

Dale, D., Ontario

Love the commentary. I feel this should be a video with narration preferably in an English accent.

Wally R., Ontario.

The constantly roving eye of the artist. This is a marvellous image within an image.

Nancy B., Florida

These images are fresh -  love the effect and can see these as stained glass windows in my (imaginary) cabin in the north!

A Long Way Home…

After forty years away, returning to a camera and horses felt like a homecoming. They became my constant companions as I navigated the challenges of rebuilding my life. From my darkroom days to a decade of capturing the spirit of horses, my way of seeing has now shifted into the light and motion of an abstract interpretation. This journey has lit up my life, and I am so grateful to share it with you.

The Artist’s Journal…

It has been a time of reflection as I created this website and thought sharing some of my adventures might be an idea, so please come along and see if some of the adventures resonate with you!

This image was a study in colour and patterns and changed the direction of my rodeo photography. The intensity of the rodeo is still something I struggle with however it was a way of life in the past.

This journal entry is about ten tips to be prepared and aware as a photographer at a rodeo. Spectators might find a few things useful as well - especially what to carry with you when you leave your car in that dusty lot to go watch the show.

I invite you to drop by my journal and catch up on some of my adventures. Of course, there are images to see as well!

Hope to see you there!
