An Adventure in Poland

So many horses, so many Photo Opps…

Arriving in Poland, I was picked up from the hotel in Krakow and off we went for the week’s adventure.

Our first stop was at Podolin Stud, our home base for the next three nights. It was like stepping onto a country estate with beautiful flowers and vines covering the lodge where we were staying. We had our choice of rooms upstairs and meals were provided downstairs. It was like being at the side of a country road in England, except it was in Poland!

We were lucky enough to head out that evening for our first session. Being surrounded by horses galloping every which way in every possible colour combination was something I hadn’t experienced before. When I looked over the images when I got back to my room, I kept thinking it looks like the images were taken on three or four different days as the light was different in each shot. How cool was that?

Looking back, this was one of my favourite locations on this trip, until the next location and it became my new favourite. The access that we had to these horse farms throughout Poland was amazing. We were greeted at each location like we were an important group of international equine photographers - which we were! We were so lucky to photograph where we did!

This was one of the first images that I edited with a texture. A ‘texture’ is a separate image or layer of colours that changes the background in the image.

I was always intimidated by Photoshop however found the best way to deal with it was to learn something on a ‘need to know’ basis. I wanted to know how to do this technique so I googled for information and tried it out - it worked, don’t you think?

I submitted this image to the Portrait Masters accreditation program led by Sue Bryce. It received a bronze accreditation. I knew that I was on the right track with adding textures and it was a confidence boost to qualify at a professional standard. It's also a great way to assess where you are at in your photography journey.
