Life is Textured

Things are Looking Up!

A lesson in Being Flexible

We're driving to Tijuana??

I have a sure fire way of deciding what workshops to take. I read the description, look at the photos and if I feel the connection that it's something I'd like to try, I'll book it! I booked this particular workshop because there was a beautiful video of a horse and rider galloping through the surf. I immediately thought, I am in.

From the workshop description, I knew I had to fly to Santa Barbara so I booked my flight, hotel reservations and looked forward to meeting some like-minded photographers and Tamara Gooch. She was one of the photographers on my list of the top 10 equine photographers in the world.

All participants met for dinner the night before the workshop started and were told what time to be up to be ready to drive to Tijuana. And that's when I realized I was heading to Mexico! I looked back over the description and of course it was there. I guess I just didn't read that far! Note to self to read the full description!

We stayed in a gated resort for the week and were told to stay within the gates. Following rules is sometimes a good idea! We were quite safe. It just was a bit disconcerting to be told not to go outside the resort. This was in the olden days before life really got crazy!

I visited Tijuana a number of years before and realized now that my girlfriend's partner who drove us there probably brought us along to get past the border security as he picked up his supply of steroids. There are a lot of things my mom didn't know about me however I digress…

The week of various locations and horses was everything I could have hoped for. I remember going down to the beach with the horses galloping through the surf and am still amazed I got to take part in such a great workshop. It really was an amazing set of locations. So much variety and we got to try so many things. Tijuana rocks!

I was glad I hadn't rented a car because I was told that a rental car is not allowed to cross the border to Mexico. This was a few years ago, and I can't imagine it has changed.

This particular image was taken in a corral, and as I was so pleased with it, I submitted it to be evaluated by the Portrait Masters, led by Sue Bryce, and it received a silver placement. So that made my day and that trip!
