The Monochrome Horse

Vertical Limit

Kayseri, Turkey

Photographing the wild horses of Turkey was pure bedlam. Cowboys, brides, grooms, photographers - dust everywhere, - chaos!

It’s a local tradition for wedding couples to pose while the herd trots around them. At one point, a cowboy cued his horse to rear and the animal rose, nearly vertical. I still can’t believe he didn’t tip over backwards! Would you be brave enough to stand in a herd of wild horses for a photo? Not sure I would, and I used to own horses!

Vertical Limit was a nominee for best domestic animal photography in an international competition.
