One thing you can count on in Iceland is the constant wind. As horses are sometimes ‘flighty’ in those conditions, I wasn’t sure what to expect when we went into the field with over 70 horses. We caught their interest though as they slowly munched their way over to us - well, some of them did!

It was lightly raining at the time, but as we stood around, looking at the animals moving and milling about, it gave us time to think about what we could photograph. Details shots of the manes, eyes, and also the full horse were all possibilities. Luckily, the horses were exceptionally calm, and it was almost as if time stood still. We stayed in that field for close to two hours. Funny how the wind became an unexpected helper as it gave the horses a windswept look.

I guess the answer to photographing horses in Iceland really is blowing in the wind.
